NFL:

Matt Patricia has been hired as the new head coach of the Detroit Lions after spending the last six seasons as the New England Patriots' defensive coordinator. Patricia was on coach Bill Belichick's staff for 14 seasons, much of that while Lions general manager Bob Quinn was part of New England's personnel department. Former head coach Jim Caldwell was fired last month after the Lions missed the playoffs despite a 9-7 record.

Sunday's Super Bowl was seen by seven percent fewer television viewers than last year's game. The Neilsen company says the estimated 103.4 million TV viewers is the smallest Super Bowl audience since 2009 despite the underdog Philadelphia Eagles' exciting eight-point win over New England. NFL viewership has been down this year, with experts citing factors like increased injuries, some confusing rules changes and anger at players protesting by kneeling during the national anthem.

NBA:

The Bucks have acquired center Tyler Zeller from Brooklyn in exchange for guard Rashad Vaughn and a future second round draft pick. Zeller is in his sixth season in the league and has career averages of seven points and four rebounds per game. Zeller appeared in 42 games this season for the Nets, averaging 7.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in 16 minutes per contest. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft by Dallas and was traded to Cleveland to start his career.

Hockey:

Wisconsin Men’s Hockey Coach Tony Granato leaves for South Korea on Wednesday to coach the U.S. Men's Olympic Hockey team.  He leaves the Badgers in the hands of Associate Head Coaches Mark Osiecki and Mark Strobel. Granato will miss the Badgers two remaining regular season series, at home this weekend against Minnesota and at Ohio State two weeks after that. The Badgers are in third place in the Big Ten and in position to host best of 3 first round playoff series the first weekend in March. The US Men’s team faces off against Slovenia in a preliminary round game next Wednesday.
