WIAA Division 3 Regional Finals:

Boys Golf:

WIAA Division 1 Sectionals:

The city of Fond du Lac will be well represented at the Boys State Golf Tournament this year as the Fond du Lac Cardinals won their Division One Sectional at Whistling Straits Wednesday to qualify for State at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. Fondy shot a 304 to take the title, beating out second place Sheboygan North who fired a 308. Elliot Nielsen fired a 72 to lead the Cardinals, taking second place individually. Jonah Duwell and Jack DuChateau each shot a 77, Sam Nielsen a 78 and Seb Hoban an 82. The Cardinals join St. Mary’s Springs who won their Division Three sectional on Tuesday to return to state.

WIAA Division 2 Sectionals:

The Waupun boys golf team placed second at the Division Two sectional at Kettle Hills Golf Course in Richfield to qualify for state. The Warriors shot a 320 to place four spots behind first place Kewaskum with a 316. Owen Theune took second place individually for Waupun with a 76. Kiel took 11th place as a team with a 371, Trace Woepse tied for sixth place individually with a 78. Campbellsport placed 12th as a team at sectionals with a 381. Max Mayer shot an 87 to lead the Cougars individually.

–Andrew Bullock had two hits in the loss for the Dock Spiders to the Woodhucks in Wausau. Fondy hosts Rockford in their 2018 home opener tonight, first pitch is 6:35 pm.

–Orlando Arcia’s RBI single in the seventh helped the Brewers take the series finale against the Cardinals at Miller Park Wednesday afternoon. The Brewers fell behind 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning, then Christian Yelich tied the game to lead off the bottom half of the frame to knot the game up back at two. Jeremy Jeffress earned the win, despite surrendering two runs in the seventh – he’s now 5-0 on the year. Corey Knebel struck out the final batter in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season. The Brewers are off today, and open an interleague series with the Chicago White Sox starting Friday night.

The Packers added offensive line depth Wednesday, by signing veteran lineman Byron Bell. Bell has played in 90 career games with 74 starts with Carolina, Tennessee and Dallas. He played in 12 games with two starts last year for Dallas, after missing the entire 2016 season with an ankle injury.

Basketball:

Ethan Happ is coming back to the Badgers for his senior year. The center pulled his name out of the NBA Draft pool Wednesday. Happ had declared for the draft following his junior season, but did not hire an agent – leaving open the possibility to return to UW. The deadline to withdraw from NBA Draft considerations was 11 pm Wednesday night.
