>>UW Athletic Director Alvarez Just Has “Hollow Feeling”

(Madison, WI)  —  Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez says the Big Ten Conference decision to call off fall sports leaves him with “a hollow feeling.” The PAC-12 made the same decision a few hours later and the Big 12 and ACC are expected to be next.  Alvarez won’t count out the possibility of shifting football to the spring for six-to-eight games, but he’s deferring to head coach Paul Chryst. Many Badger players have tweeted their frustration and anger and Alvarez says he can understand the players’ pain.  Discussion about the eligibility rules for players will start today (Wednesday).

>>Miller Park Could Host Postseason If MLB Goes To “Bubble” Scenario For Games

(Milwaukee, WI)  —  Major League Baseball is reportedly considering playing its championship series and World Series in a “bubble,” like the NBA. ESPN baseball writer Jeff Passan suggests Milwaukee’s Miller Park as one possible stadium where games could be played, air travel avoided, and teams remaining at one hotel for the entire series.  Passan suggests Southern California, the greater Chicago area and the New York metropolitan area as making the most sense.  Weather could be a factor in the last two locations, but Miller Park’s retractable roof could mitigation that challenge.

>>Coronavirus Pandemic Has Bakhtiari, Clark Contract Talks On Hold

(Green Bay, WI)  —  Some day Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari, defensive lineman Kenny Clark, running back Aaron Jones, cornerback Kevin King and center Corey Linsley will get big paydays.  Not now.  The uncertainty over whether the NFL will even be able to play a full season has contract negotiations on hold for many teams.  Bakhtiari and Clark should get mega-deals.  Empty stadiums due to the coronavirus pandemic will cut deeply into league revenues and, if the season is called off, teams don’t want to pay upfront money for signing bonuses if the players might not play.  Salary caps are expected to be lower next season.  That means the Packer players may have to wait until next year to get a new deal.
