High School Sports:

Saturday was a good day for local high school volleyball teams – the Fond du Lac High School girls won their home invite, going 5-0 on the day. The St. Mary’s Springs girls won the Shiocton Invite – going 8-0 on the day, Laconia won the Dodgeland Invite – defeating Manawa in the Championship Match, and Waupun took second place in the Ripon Invite. The Fond du Lac Boys Volleyball team also took first place in a weekend tournament – the Cardinals won the Hartford Union Invite on Saturday.

Johnsburg 9, Howards Grove 4

–Johnsburg wins the East Shore League Championship for 2018. Trent Nickel, Corey Nickel and Dusty Koenigs each had three hits in the win for Johnsburg.

Green Bay 24, Chicago 23

–From a nightmare first half, to a dream finish – the Packers rally from down 20-0 to the Bears to win in the season opener at Lambeau Field Sunday night. Green Bay fell behind early, with the Bears moving the ball and scoring quickly, building their advantage to 17-0 at halftime and took their 20-0 lead with 9:14 left in the third. Aaron Rodgers, who left the game in the first half with a knee injury, was cleared to play and returned to engineer the comeback. The Packers QB threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns – all in the second half, including the go-ahead 75 yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb with 2:13 left. Rodgers also connected with Geronimo Allison and Davante Adams for scores in the half. For the Bears – recently acquired linebacker Kahlil Mack was as advertised, recording a sack, recovering a fumble and returning an interception for a touchdown late in the first half.The Packers host the Vikings next Sunday – kickoff is at Noon.

Minnesota 24, San Francisco 16

–Kirk Cousins threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns in his Vikings debut. Minnesota travels to Green Bay Sunday – Kickoff is at Noon.

Tonight, it’s a Monday Night Football doubleheader as Detroit hosts the New York Jets and Oakland hosts the LA Rams

Wisconsin 45, New Mexico 14

–Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 33 times for 253 yards and three touchdowns for the Badgers as they improved to 2-0 with the win over New Mexico at Camp Randall Stadium Saturday afternoon. Taylor set career highs in carries and yards and matched his career high in rushing touchdowns in the game. Wisconsin has won 41 straight non-conference games at home – and will look to extend that streak next Saturday against BYU.

–Jonathan Schoop’s grand slam in the sixth inning was the difference as the Brewers completed the sweep of San Francisco Sunday afternoon at Miller Park. Milwaukee hits the road to Wrigley Field for the final time this season as they begin a three game series with the Cubs tonight. Coverage starts after In The Huddle on KFIZ.
