Girls Golf Regionals:

Fond du Lac placed seventh at the WIAA Division One regional at Rolling Meadows Golf Course on Wednesday. The Cardinals shot a 417 as a team, with Shefali Bhatt tying for second place individually and qualifying for sectionals with an 85. The Kewaskum/Campbellsport co-op took third place and qualified for sectionals as a team, scoring a 397. Alyssa Dreher tied for second place with an 85 to lead Kewaskum/Campbellsport.

Football:

A trio of St. Mary’s Springs football players and one Fondy Cardinal have been named semi-finalists for statewide football awards to be given out by WisSports.net. Ledgers quarterback Mitchell Waechter is a semifinalist for the Dave Kreig Award – given annually to the state’s top senior quarterback. His top receiving threat, Cade Christensen, is a finalist for the Al Toon Award, which is given annually to the state’s top senior receiver. Meanwhile, Ledgers lineman Jacob Schrauth and Cardinals lineman Andrew Stone have been named semifinalists for the Joe Thomas Award, which is given annually to the state’s top senior Offensive Lineman.

–For the fifth time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to the postseason. Travis Shaw had two run-scoring singles, both scoring Christian Yelich to help the Brewers grab the win and sweep the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Jhoulys Chacin allowed a run on one hit in five innings with three strikeouts, while four relievers kept the Cardinals off the board the rest of the way – with Jeremy Jeffress picking up his 13th save of the year in the ninth inning. The Brewers close out the regular season with a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers – game one is Friday night at 7:10.

–The Cubs remain a half game up on the Brewers in the NL Central.

Northwoods League:

The Northwoods League will be adding a new team. An investor group led by the Minor League baseball team the West Michigan Whitecaps have purchased Wuerfel Park in Traverse City, Michigan and will have a Northwoods League team begin play in May of next year. The Traverse City team will join the St. Croix River Hounds in Hudson, WI and the Kokomo Jackrabbits from Kokomo, Indiana as new teams joining the league.

NFL:

The Packers officially announced the signing of cornerback Bashaud Breeland on Wednesday and placed cornerback Davon House on injured reserve. Breeland, a fifth-year player out of Clemson was a fourth-round pick of Washington in 2014, played in 60 games with the Redskins with 57 starts over the last four years – totaling 267 tackles, eight interceptions, 60 passes defensed and eight forced fumbles. House is reportedly set to have shoulder surgery that will end his season.

Tonight on Thursday Night Football, the Minnesota Vikings visit the Los Angeles Rams – coverage on KFIZ from Westwood One Sports begins at 7pm.

College Football:

The University of Wisconsin is set to honor the 25th anniversary of the 1993 Rose Bowl team during next Saturday’s game against Nebraska. More than 70 former players and coaches from the will be honored at a halftime ceremony as the 2018 Badgers take on the Cornhuskers under the lights at Camp Randall on October 6th. The 1993 team won a then-school-record 10 games, won the Big Ten title and advanced to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1963 – and won the ‘Granddaddy of Them All’ for the first time in school history.
