Milwaukee 4, Chicago Cubs 3

–Christian Yelich is the hero yet again for Milwaukee – as his walk-off fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth gave the Brewers the win in game one of their series with the Cubs at Miller Park Monday afternoon. Yelich put the Brewers ahead 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI single that scored Lorenzo Cain. After Anthony Rizzo put the Cubs ahead with a two-run home run in the eighth, the Brewers tied it back up on a bases loaded walk to Mike Moustakas in the home half of the frame. In the ninth, Erik Kratz walked while both Orlando Arcia and Lorenzo Cain were hit by pitches to load the bases. Yelich was able to beat out Kris Bryant’s throw at first base as the winning run scored. The second game in the series is tonight – coverage starts at 6:35 pm on KFIZ.

MLB News:

Christian Yelich of the Brewers has earned his second National League Player of the Week honor of the season after his blazing hot hitting in the Brewers’ recent road trip. Yelich hit .444 with 12 hits, four home runs, seven runs scored and 14 RBI. After hitting for the cycle Monday night against Cincinnati, Yelich hit his first career grand slam in Sunday’s win over Washington. Yelich previously took home the honor for the week of July 29th. Only Scooter Gennett of Cincinnati and Matt Carpenter of St. Louis have won Player of the Week multiple times this season along with Yelich.

Minor League Baseball:

–The Timber Rattlers close out the season with a win – finish the season 68-71 and 37-33 for the second half

NFL:

The Packers made a number of roster moves on Monday, after ‘cutdown Saturday’ and “practice squad Sunday’ had come and passed. Green Bay announced the signing of linebacker Korey Toomer to the 53-man roster and the placement of receiver Jake Kumerow on Injured Reserve. The Packers also signed running back Darius Jackson off of Dallas’ practice squad to their active roster and released cornerback Herb Waters. The team also filled their final two practice squad spots, signing cornerback Tony Brown and safety Marwin Evans
