MLB News:

Former Brewer Bill Hall will officially retire as a member of the team this week. Hall, who played eight seasons in Milwaukee, was a sixth round pick of the team in the 1998 first-year player draft. His career stats include a .253 average, with 102 home runs and 367 RBI, along with 49 stolen bases in 831 games. Hall started at six different positions in the infield and outfield while playing in Milwaukee – and was named Brewers MVP in 2006. Hall will speak at a press conference Thursday at 5 pm.

NFL:

The Green Bay Packers have placed rookie tight end Jace Sternberger on Injured Reserve. Sternberger has been battling an ankle injury, and did not practice either Monday or Tuesday this week. The Packers third round draft pick had missed most of training camp with a concussion – which resulted from a hit by Houston cornerback Lonnie Johnson during joint practices in early August. He returned in time for the preseason finale against Kansas City, but left in the second quarter with the knee injury. Sternberger is eligible to return from the injured list after a minimum of eight weeks. Green Bay has called up receiver Allen Lazard from the Practice Squad to take Sternberger’s place.

College Football:

The Wisconsin Football team climbed slightly in both national polls this week after their season opening win at South Florida last Friday. Wisconsin jumped one spot to number 16 in the Coaches Poll and two spots to number 17 in the media poll after the 49-0 road win. The Badgers are one of seven Big Ten teams ranked – including Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa and Nebraska. The top seven teams in the poll remain unchanged this week – with Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma holding down the top four for the second week in a row.
