Major League Baseball: 

The Milwaukee Brewers will finally play their first home game of the COVID-shortened season tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals (Saturday 6:10 p-m). Opening Day at Miller Park was postponed Friday after it was learned that at least two members of the Cardinals tested positive for coronavirus. Friday’s game was rescheduled and will be part of a doubleheader in Milwaukee Sunday.  Both teams are going with their scheduled opening day starters. Left-hander Brett Anderson will be on the mound for the Crew while Jack Flaherty gets the ball for the Cards.

Milwaukee 119, Boston 112

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 36 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists as the Bucks held off the Celtics 119-112 Friday night at Walt Disney World.  Khris Middleton added 18 points and eight assists while Brook Lopez scored 14 in the first of eight seeding games at the NBA bubble. Some Boston players complained about a referee’s decision to overturn a charging call against Giannis with just over a minute remaining in the fourth quarter.  The foul would have been his sixth of the night. Marcus Smart scored 23 points off the bench for the Celtics and Jaylen Brown had 22.  Milwaukee is now one win away from clinching the top playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks face the Houston Rockets Sunday night.  James Harden went off for 49 points last night in Houston’s overtime victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

>> Big Ten Media Poll Picks Wisconsin Football to Repeat at West Champions in 2020

(Cleveland, OH)  —  After winning the Big Ten West under Paul Chryst in 2016, 2017 and 2019, the Wisconsin Badgers are expected to win it again in 2020. Cleveland-dot-com released the annual Big Ten media poll, selecting Ohio State to win the overall league title.  The Badgers received 19 first-place votes and to win the West again this season.  Minnesota finished second with 14 first-place votes, followed by Iowa and Nebraska.  Ohio State was picked to win the East, ahead of Penn State and Michigan.  Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was named the preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons was named the preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

 

>>Events at Lambeau Field and Titletown Resume August 3

(Green Bay, WI)  —  The Green Bay Packers say events and activities will resume Monday at Lambeau Field and Titletown.  The team has implemented new safety policies and procedures to stop the spread of coronavirus.  Face masks are required under the new statewide mandate and can be removed for eating and drinking.  There will be no preseason games at Lambeau this month.

(Jersey City, NJ)  —  The Dallas Cowboys are once again the most valuable sports franchise in the world.  Forbes released its annual list on Friday and America’s team is worth five-and-a-half billion dollars.  Two iconic New York franchises round out the top three with the Yankees and Knicks.  The 27-time World Series champs are worth five-billion.  The NBA’’s Lakers and Warriors occupy the four and five spots.  Spain’s Real Madrid is the top ranked soccer team at number six.
