>>2020 Brewers Season Finally Gets Underway

(Chicago, IL)  --  When Kyle Hendricks finally throws that first pitch to Lorenzo Cain a little after 6:10 p-m, the long wait for the 2020 Milwaukee Brewers baseball season will finally be over.  More than four months after spring training was canceled, Major League Baseball will try to squeeze in a 60-game season. The only fans present will be across the street from Wrigley Field on rooftops. The coronavirus pandemic still threatens to end the games prematurely, but players say they are ready to go.  The National League Central Division is probably the most wide-open division in baseball – with only the Pittsburgh Pirates given no chance to finish first.  The Brewers will be trying to make the postseason for a third straight year, something the franchise has never done before.

Listen to tonight’s game on KFIZ - coverage starts at 5:35 pm.

>>Bucks Don’t Miss A Beat, Roll Past San Antonio 113-92 In First Scrimmage

(Lake Buena Vista, FL)  --  The Milwaukee Bucks started to look like the Bucks when they pulled away from San Antonio in the third period Thursday and went on to win the scrimmage 113-92.  Giannis Antetokounmpo picked up five fouls in the first half, but that didn’t keep him from scoring 22 points in 21 minutes.  He also had four assists, three rebounds and three steals, saying after the game he wasn’t back in “basketball shape” yet.  Khris Middleton led the attack in the third period when the Bucks buried the Spurs.  He had 16 points in 21 minutes, including a team-high five assists.  Milwaukee plays the Sacramento Kings Saturday in a game with an 11:30 a-m tipoff.

>>Alvarez Says Pandemic Could Cost UW Sports $100M

(Madison, WI)  --  What the coronavirus pandemic is doing to the athletics budget at the University of Wisconsin is enough to make Barry Alvarez sick.  The U-W director of athletics says the program is facing a “great financial challenge” no matter what the fall season looks like.  U-W has already lost an estimated 12 million dollars in revenue.  Alvarez says that could balloon to 100 million in losses before the fiscal year is over.  Since the department budget totals 140 million, Alvarez says the risk is very real.  That message was in an open letter to Badger fans and the community.  So far, U-W athletics has avoided eliminating sports and cutting jobs.

>>Green Bay Is 1-Of-3 Finalists To Host 2024 NFL Draft

(Green Bay, WI)  --  The Green Bay Packers front office says the team is one of three finalists to host the 2024 NFL Draft.  It also wants to bring the Big Ten Conference championship game to Lambeau Field at least once by 2030.  President and CEO Mark Murphy told Packers shareholders about the situation during Thursday’s annual meeting, which was held online.  Murphy points to the Resch Expo exhibit center being built across the street from Lambeau Field and the continued development of the 45-acre Titletown District.  He says Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin plan to reschedule the game they were going to play this year at the historic stadium, probably to the 2022 football season.

>>Badgers Safety Burrell On Another Watch List

(Madison, WI)  --  Wisconsin Badgers senior safety Eric Burrell is on another preseason watch list.  He is one of 98 defensive players in the country in contention for the Bronko Nagurski Award.  It goes to the best college defensive player in the country.  Burrell was already named to the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award.  There are nine other Big Ten Conference players on the Nagurski watch list.  The Badgers have never had a player win that award, but Ohio State’s Chase Young won it last year.
