KFIZ Sports Two-a-Days : Lomira Lions

The 2018 Lomira Football team will continue to “lay the
foundation” for success at the school. Head coach Shane Obrigewitch enters his
second year with the Lions, and comes off of a two-win season in year one.
Obrigewitch tells us that his 2017 seniors came up with the theme of “laying
the foundation” for a success at the school and he feels they exceeded in doing
that. “We’ve had a really good summer as far as lifting and commitment goes. As
of today, we have 57 kids out for football – which is nine or ten up from last
year, and our lifting this summer was exceptional” Obrigewitch said.

As for what to expect on the field in 2018, Obrigewitch
hopes experience gained by players from last year’s team will carry over to
this season. “We have some kids that really improved from last year and we’re
hoping can do big things this year” Obrigewitch said. He identifies running
back Nate Werbelow who ran for almost 600 yards last season, and last year’s
starting quarterback Bennett Broeske as key returners on offense. On defense,
Obrigewitch points to defensive end Malik Johnson – a first team All-Conference
selection in 2017, and linebacker Nick Dudarenke a second team All-Conference
selection to play big roles for the Lions’ defense.

Obrigewitch hopes Lomira can finish toward the upper half
of the conference, but he says “from top to bottom, its one of the better
conferences in the state. The Flyway is a bear of a conference. There is no
week off. Every week is a battle. Every week you’re going to have to be on your
‘A-game’. We’re just going to wait and see what shakes out.”
