Ledger Girls Just Short Of State

The St. Mary’s Springs girls basketball team’s season ends just one win away from the State Tournament, falling to The Prairie School 53-50 in the Division Four Sectional Final at Hartland Arrowhead on Saturday afternoon.  The Ledgers fell behind by 10 points midway through the 2nd quarter but battled back to trail by just 5 at 26-21 at the half.  The Prairie School controlled then 2nd half and never let SMSA get the within one position until the final seconds.  Kelli Schrauth led Springs with 17 points.  Eleanore Mueller added 13 in the loss. The Prairie School was led by Gabi Ortiz, who is considered the best junior girls basketball player in the state, with 18.  SMSA’s season ends at 21-5.  The Prairie School improves to 24-2 as them advance to the state tournament in Green Bay next Thursday night.
