Ledgers Back At State

St. Mary’s Springs Academy earned a trip to the WIAA Division Six State
Championship Game with a 31-7 win over Athens at
Stevens Point
on Friday night.  After a scoreless first
quarter St. Mary’s Springs got on the board when junior Sam Spranger scored
from 5 yards out with 7:50 left in the half.  Spranger punched it in again with 2:56 left in
the half from 2 yards out to make it 14-0. 
Zach Hintze banged home a 22 yard field goal with :03 seconds left in
the half to push the Ledger lead to 17-0. 
Alec Strigenz made it 24-0 on a 39-yard run with 5:56 left in the 3rd
quarter.  Athens got on the board with 3:01 left in the
3rd quarter when Austin Engel caught a 3 yard TD pass. Those were
the first points against the Ledgers the entire post season.  Spranger’s 3rd TD run, a 35-yard
scamper, put the cherry on the sundae for the Ledges 2:42 left in the 4th
quarter.  Sam Spranger carried the ball
23 times for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns. 
Mark Austin added 106 yards on 14 carries while Alec Strigenz have four
carries for 55 yards and a touchdown.  
The Ledgers (13-0) will play Darlington in the
WIAA Division Six State Championship Game on Thursday afternoon at 1pm.  You’ll hear the game on News-Talk 1450
KFIZ.  Coverage begins at 12pm with the
Tim Cruz Agency American Family Insurance Pregame Show. The game kicks off at
1pm.
