Ledgers & Spartans Take Regional Crowns

St. Mary’s Springs Academy won their Division Four Regional with a 59-49 win over Brookfield Academy on Saturday night at the Hutter Gym.  Cory Nies paced the Ledgers with 12 points.  Evan Henderson added 11 while Darin Ward and David Joslyn each scored 10 points for St. Mary’s Springs as they improve to 20-4 on the season heading into their Sectional Semifinal matchup with Laconia on Thursday night at Fond du Lac High School.  That game tips at 7pm.

 

Top seeded Laconia edged Milwaukee Destiny 60-55 to win their Division 4 Regional Final Saturday night in Rosendale.  Laconia race out to an 8-0 lead early in the first quarter and led 16-10 at the when Tyler Semenas hit a three falling out of bounds as the buzzer sounded.  Destiny outscored Laconia 22-18 in the 2nd quarter to cut the Spartan lead to 34-32 at the break.  The Golden Eagles ran off the first 8 points of the 2nd half to open up a 40-34 lead before Laconia countered with a 9-0 run of their own to retake the lead 43-40.  The teams were all square at 47 heading into the 4th quarter.  Laconia held Destiny to just 2 field goals and 8 points in the fourth quarter to survive.  The Spartans were terrible from the free throw line, hitting just 11 of 23 on the night, but Semenas hit a pair in the final minute to give Laconia a 2 point lead. Tyler Rickert split a pair and Brett Wittchow knocked down a pair with 6 seconds left to ice the game.  Laconia improves to 24-0 on the season and will face St. Mary’s Springs on Thursday night in the Sectional Semifinal at Fond du Lac High School.
