Ledgers Take Sturgeon Cup With Win Over Fondy

The St. Mary’s Springs hockey team grabbed city bragging
rights with an exciting 4-1 win over Fond du Lac
in front of a packed house at the Blue
Line Family
Ice Center

on Thursday night.  St. Mary’s Springs
notched the lone goal of the 1st period when Mitchell Grebe beat
William Shober at the 5:52 mark.  Conner
Blank and Anthony Grebe tallied assists on the score.   Fondy evened up the score at the 9:40 mark
of the 2nd period when Noah Wilson scored on a slap shot from the
right side.  Caylen Dyni had the
assist.  The Ledgers took the lead less
than a minute later when Blank beat Shober on a mini-brekway on the left side
to make it 2-1. Blank added his 2nd goal of the night early in the 3rd
period with help from Mitchel Grebe again.  Blank finished off the hat trick with an empty
netter at the 15:48 mark with Antony Grebe getting the assist.  Blank and Mitchell Grebe both finished with 4
points on the night.  Freshman goalie
Colin Ahern had 33 saves for the Ledgers. 
St. Mary’s Springs (2-2, 2-0) will travel to Cedarburg on Saturday.  Fondy (2-1, 1-1) will play at University School on Saturday.  The Ledgers win the inaugural Sturgeon Cup with
the win.  The trophy will be on the line
every time the team’s play in the regular season from here on out.
