Lightning Strike Down Cardinals In Opener

Appleton North came to Fruth Field and beat the Fond du Lac Cardinals 37-12 in the season opener on Friday night.  North scored on their first two possessions of the game. The first was a 3 yard TD catch by Matt Tway on 4th down. The 2nd score was a 3 yard run by Keegan Kruel to make it 14-0.  Fondy didn’t roll over and scored their first TD of the season when Jack Najedlo hit Bryan Luteyn on a 28 yard score on the final play of the 1st quarter.  North QB Dan Rothbauer made it 21-6 on a 72 yard run early in the 2nd.  Two more north TDs in the 3rd quarter pushed the Lightning lead to 34-6 before Najedlo hit Luteyn on a 76 yard scoring pass up the right sideline.  North added a 38 yard field goal by Alex Macke late in the 4th to make it 34-12.   Fondy will play their 2nd non-conference game of the season next Friday night when they travel to Kimberly.  You’ll hear it on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ and streaming at kfiz.com.
