Marian Hires First Men’s Volleyball Coach

FOND DU LAC, Wisconsin (SabreAthletics.com) – A new chapter begins as Marian University Athletic Director Jason Bartelt announced today, Dec. 12, the hiring of Tyler Frings as the men’s volleyball program’s first head coach.

“Not only are we excited to begin the process of building a brand new men’s volleyball program – one of the fastest-growing sports in the country – but we’re thrilled to have Tyler on board to lead the charge,” Bartelt stated. “Tyler really impressed us throughout the interview process. His knowledge and experience, as well as his familiarity of the area, will allow him to hit the ground running.”

Frings, a native of Hubertus, Wisconsin, brings an impressive playing background with a successful mentorship and a host of youthful exuberance to a newly-established men’s volleyball program at Marian University.

“I am beyond grateful and excited for this opportunity,” Frings said. “Everyone has been so helpful and excited about the addition of men’s volleyball. I’m proud to pioneer this program at Marian and feel blessed to be part of the Sabre athletics family.”

From 2012-13, Frings served as graduate assistant coach at Cardinal Stritch under the tutelage of Natalie Wildes, who before she arrived at Stritch, was the top assistant at national power Lewis University (Ill.) of NCAA Division II.

The Wolves made back-to-back conference tournament championship appearances during Frings’ tenure with a 9-1 league mark in 2013 that led to a regular season title. While earning his master’s, Frings also assisted the Germantown High School varsity team.

Upon earning his master’s from Stritch, Frings worked as a marketing associate at the National Volleyball League, while serving as a personal trainer for athletes on the side.

Frings played four years at Carthage and finished as the program’s career-leader in block assists (366), total blocks (441) and blocks per set (1.24). He was a three-time All-Conference selection and ranked second in all of NCAA Division III with 1.30 blocks per set in 2011. As a senior, Frings also set program season-records in block assists (119) and total blocks (138).

Frings is in the process of relocating to Fond du Lac.
