Marshfield Stuns Fondy In Regular Season Finale

The Marshfield Tigers spoiled the Fond
du Lac
football team’s bid for a perfect regular season with a come
from behind 22-21 victory at Beel Stadium in Marshfield on Friday night.  After falling behind 7-0 in the 1st
quarter, the Cardinals rallied to take a 21-7 lead into the halftime locker
room on a two yard TD run by Justin Maratik and TD runs of 20 and 15 yards by
Quinn Woelfel.  Marshfield made it a one touchdown game with
Nick Hoheisel scored from two yards out with just under four minutes left in 3rd
quarter.  Hoheisel, the VFA-South’s
leading rusher, then moved the Tiger within one point by taking a screen pass
10 yards for a score with just :30 seconds left in the 4th
quarter.  Marshfield, who is not playoff
eligible, went four two points and got it when Tyson Slade hit a wide open
Isaac Huettl in the right corner of the end zone for the lead.  Fondy was able to get down to
the Marshfield 40 yard line before a Quinn Woelfel desperation pass was
intercepted as time expired.  Fondy
turned it over four times in the game. 
Senior Justin Maratik ran 23 times for 109 yards and a touchdown.  The score made him Fond du Lac’s all-time leading scorer with
384 points, breaking a tie with Jacob Brault (1999-2000).  Fond
du Lac
ends their year at 8-1 overall and 7-1 in VFA South
play. They are the outright league champs and will find out their playoff pairings
on Saturday.  Marshfield ends their season at 4-5 overall
and 3-5 in league play.
