NBA Draft : Bucks Select USC’s Porter, Trade him to Detroit

The Milwaukee Bucks had a quiet night in the 2019 NBA Draft. Milwaukee held the 30th overall pick in the first round coming into the night, and selected shooting guard Kevin Porter Jr. from USC. Porter’s time as a Buck was very short lived – as his draft rights were traded to Detroit, along with guard Tony Snell in exchange for forward Jon Leuer. Leuer, who played at Wisconsin and was originally drafted by the Bucks in the 2011 NBA Draft, appeared in 41 games for the Pistons last season – averaging 3.8 points per game.

Duke ruled the top of this year’s draft – as star forward Zion Williamson went – as expected – number one overall to New Orleans. Murray State’s Ja Morant was taken second overall by Memphis, with the New York Knicks taking Duke’s other talented freshman RJ Barrett at number three. The rest of the top five saw Virginia’s DeAndre Hunter get taken fourth overall by New Orleans – then see get traded to Atlanta, and Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland go fifth overall to Cleveland.

Only one player with Wisconsin ties was selected – Kentucky’s Tyler Herro, a Whitnall High School graduate, was taken 13th overall by the Miami Heat.
