Overtime Field Goal Ends Fondy Playoff Run

Junior Patrick English’s 20
yard field goal in overtime lifted Milwaukee Marquette to a 24-21 overtime win
at Fruth Field in the WIAA Division One State Semifinals on Friday Night.  The Cardinals jumped out to a 7-0 lead as
senior Justin Maratik capped off a 9 play 58 yard opening drive.  Marquette
then ran off the next 21 points on a pair of Jack Dwyer TD runs and a 52 yard
pass from Dwyer to Alex Giampiertro.
Fondy answered though with another Maratik TD run to cut the lead to
21-14 midway through the 3rd. Quinn Woelfel scored on a 30 yard run
early in the 4th.   The
Cardinals had the 1st chance in OT but threw an interception.  Marquette
then drove inside the five to set up the game winning field goal.  For the 2nd straight year, Fondy’s
season ends at 10-2 in the state quarterfinals.
