Packers Fire McCarthy, Philbin Named Interim HC

The Green Bay Packers have fired head coach Mike McCarthy and named offensive coordinator Joe Philbin the interim head coach. That announcement came just hours after the Packers lost to the Cardinals at Lambeau Field to drop to 4-7-1 on the year. Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy announced the move, saying “The 2018 season has not lived up to the expectations and standards of the Green Bay Packers. As a result, I made the difficult decision to relieve Mike McCarthy of his role as head coach, effective immediately”. McCarthy went 125-77-2 as the Packers head coach – making the playoffs nine times, with a 10-8 record in playoff games and a Super Bowl championship after the 2010 season. Murphy says the team will begin the process of choosing a new head coach immediately.
