The WIAA Board of Control Thursday voted to implement a 35 second shot clock to high school basketball games beginning with the 2019-2020 season. The change applies to varsity games only. The board also approved seeding of state tournament teams in all five divisions for basketball and for team state wrestling. Seeding for both basketball and wrestling will be done by coaches of teams who qualified for state and begins next season. Also, the WIAA will sponsor two divisions in the boys hockey playoffs for a two year trial run beginning in 2020.

–Andrew Bullock hit his second home run of the season for Fondy in the loss. He now has 15 RBI on the season, which leads the team. The Dock Spiders begin a three game home stand tonight with the first of two games with Kalamazoo. First pitch is 6:35 pm.

–Eric Sogard and Travis Shaw each went 3 for 4 in the win for the Brewers that helped them earn a split with the Pirates in their four game series at Miller Park. Chase Anderson earned the win on the mound, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out seven over six innings of work. Corey Knebel earned his 12th save of the year with a scoreless ninth. The Brewers open a weekend series in Atlanta tonight, coverage begins at 6pm on KFIZ.

Round 1, #17 Overall: DJ Wilson (Forward/Center) – Michigan

–The Milwaukee Bucks have added another young, tall player to their frontcourt after drafting Michigan’s D.J. Wilson with the 17th overall pick in the NBA draft on Thursday night. The 6-foot-10 Wilson, who had two years of college eligibility left, averaged 11 points in 2016-17. He helped fuel the Wolverines’ run to the Big Ten Tournament championship and the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16.

 

Round 2, #48 Overall:

–The Bucks drafted South Carolina guard Sindarius Thornwell and end up trading his rights to the LA Clippers for cash consideration. In another draft day trade, the Bucks acquired the rights to the #46 overall pick, SMU guard Sterling Brown, from Philadelphia.
