Packers Take Jones

The Green Bay Packers selected UCLA defensive lineman Datone Jones with the 26th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.  The 6’4, 285 pounder is considered very athletic and can play multiple positions inside and outside. GM Ted Thompson said that they received calls early in the draft about trading down, but were committed to taking Jones.  Jones told the media on Thursday night via conference call that he liked the Packers and Giants growing up and admired how Reggie White played the game.  He will wear #95.  The Packers will have seven more picks in the draft over Friday and Saturday.

Frederick To Dallas

Badger center Travis Frederick was taken with the 31st overall pick in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys.  Frederick was the only Big Ten player selected in the opening round of the draft.

 

Bucks Down 3-0

The Miami Heat took command of their first round playoff series with a 104-91 win over the Bucks at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Thursday night. Ray Allen scored 23 points and LeBron James added 22. Larry Sanders and Brandon Jennings led Milwaukee with 16. The Heat lead the best of seven series 3-0. No NBA team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit. Game 4 is Sunday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Brewers vs. Dodgers

The Brewers open up a three game series in Los Angeles with the Dodgers tonight.  Hiram Burgos takes on Josh Beckett.  Coverage begins at 8:35pm on KFIZ with the first pitch set for 9:10pm.

 

Fondy Wins Again

The Fond du Lac baseball team won their 3rd straight with a 2-1 win over Menasha on Thursday night. Hunter Schmitz went the distance, giving up just one unearned run. Blane Evans had the go-ahead RBI single and Jack Najedlo went 2x3. Fondy will travel to Neenah tonight.

 

Vikings Stop North Fondy

WLA improved to 3-0 in the Flyway conference and 5-2 overall with an 8-2 win over North Fond dui Lac at Viking Field on Thursday.Junior Lucas Muche pitched 5 innings to earn the victory allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Muche struck out 7 will issueing 1 walk. Sophomore Ryan Boelk pitched 3 innings of hitless relief to close out the game for WLA. Ryan Boelk and Justin Serwe paced the offensive attack for the Vikings with 2 hits a piece and Kevin Seibel added 4 runs batted in. Parker Parrish had a double to lead the Orioles offense.
