Fond du Lac High School point guard Luke Loewe has announced his college commitment. Loewe announced Thursday night he will be attending The College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. The school is part of the Colonial Athletic Association and has won 20 games in each of the past three seasons. Loewe had a number of division one offers, including UW-Green Bay, Drake, Illinois State, UW-Milwaukee, Rutgers, Marist, Northeastern and others. Loewe is the eighth player in the state’s high school class of 2017 to commit to a division one program. 


Waupun Legion Post 210’s baseball team advanced in the Class A state tournament Thursday with a 10-7 win over Oconto Falls in Prairie Du Chien. Waupun will play the loser of the game between Altoona and Prairie Du Chien later today. That Altoona/Prairie Du Chien game was suspended due to rain and field conditions last night.


A three-run sixth inning lifted the Brewers to a 6-4 win over Arizona in the series finale Thursday afternoon at Miller Park. With the score tied at two, Martin Maldonado singled to left to plate Hernan Perez, then Keon Broxton doubled in two runs to extend the lead to 5-2. Perez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s in the contest. Zach Davies earned the win, he’s 8-4. Jeremy Jeffress earned his 24th save of the year. The Brewers open a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. 6:35 pregame on News/Talk 1450 KFIZ.


Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun was scratched from the lineup due to right side tightness before Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Brewers have been cautious with Braun, who had lower back surgery in October and a procedure on his right thumb the previous October. He’s had several scheduled days off to rest. Braun is batting .321 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. His 11-game hitting streak was snapped in Wednesday night’s 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.


Trent Clark drove in both runs of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 victory over the Clinton LumberKings Thursday night at Ashford University Field.  Clark broke a 1-1 tie with a two-out RBI single in the top of the eighth and reliever Corbin Burnes came up with some big outs to close out the LumberKings. The final game of the series is at 6:30 this evening in Clinton, Iowa.


The Packers practiced for the first time in pads Thursday and have the day off from practice today. The team returns to the practice field Saturday morning and will hold their annual family night on Sunday at Lambeau Field.


Jimmy Walker posted a 5-under 65 in the morning and it held up to give him the first round lead of the PGA Championship. Martin Kaymer, Emiliano Grillo and Ross Fisher were all one stroke back at Baltusrol Golf Club. Edgerton native Steve Stricker is tied for 21st at one-under 69.
