ESL Playoff Series: Game 2

Howards Grove 10, Cleveland 8

--The third and final game of the series will be held next Sunday at Howards Grove at 1pm.


NFL:


Green Bay 17, Seattle 9

--After being shutout in the first half, the Packers used a 14 point third quarter to pull in front of Seattle and close out an opening day win against the Seahawks at Lambeau Field. Aaron Rodgers threw for 311 yards and a touchdown to Jordy Nelson, Ty Montgomery ran for 54 yards and a touchdown that was set up by a Russell Wilson fumble deep in Seahawks territory. That fumble was forced by Mike Daniels, who totaled seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and and four quarterback hits. The Packers totaled 370 yards of offense compared to 225 for the Seahawks and won the time of possession battle, holding the ball for 39:13 compared to 20:47 for Seattle. Green Bay plays at Atlanta next Sunday night. Kickoff is 7:30 pm.


Atlanta 23, Chicago 17

--Matt Ryan threw for 321 yards and a touchdown as the Falcons held off the Bears at Soldier Field. Bears quarterback Mike Glennon was sacked on fourth & goal with three seconds left to play in the game as they were trying to score the potential game-winning touchdown.


Detroit 35, Arizona 23

--Matthew Stafford threw for four touchdowns, two of them to rookie Kenny Golladay as the Lions scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to pull out an opening day win over the Cardinals at Ford Field in Detroit.


Tonight, New Orleans visits Minnesota on Monday Night Football. We’ll join coverage in progress on KFIZ at 7pm after “In The Huddle”. Later, we’ll have game two of the Monday Night doubleheader, as Denver hosts the LA Chargers.

Milwaukee 3, Chicago Cubs 1

--A two-run home run from Travis Shaw in the 6th inning broke a 1-1 tie and helped the Brewers to a series sweep of the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Zach Davies earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out six. Corey Knebel struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 34th save of the year. The Brewers sit tied with St. Louis for second place in the NL Central, two games back of the Cubs, and two and a half back of Colorado for the second wild card spot. The Brewers open a three-game series with Pittsburgh at Miller Park tonight, first pitch is 6:40 pm.

College Football:  


The Badgers fell one spot in both national polls this week after their 31-14 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Wisconsin dropped to number 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 and to number 12 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. In the AP Poll, Alabama remains at number one, while Oklahoma climbs three spots to number two. Clemson, USC and Penn State round out the top five with the rest of the top 10 consisting of Washington, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin. The Badgers play at BYU on Saturday with kickoff at 2:30 pm.
