Howards Grove 4, Cleveland 3

--Howards Grove wins the East Shore League Championship.


NFL:


Atlanta 34, Green Bay 23

--New season, same result. The Falcons raced out to a 24-7 lead at halftime and led 31-7 before the Packers made a late rally that fell short against Atlanta on Sunday Night Football. Aaron Rodgers threw for 343 yards and two touchdowns, but tossed an interception and lost a fumble as well that was returned for a score by the Falcons defense. Ty Montgomery ran for a score and caught another touchdown pass from Rodgers. Davante Adams led the team in receiving with eight catches for 99 yards and a touchdown. Rodgers’ pass to Montgomery in the fourth quarter was his 300th career touchdown pass.


Injuries also made an impact on the Packers last night. The team was without starting offensive tackles David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga and lost receivers Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb, defensive tackle Mike Daniels and defensive backs Davon House and Kentrell Brice to injury during the game.


Tampa Bay 29, Chicago 7

--The Buccaneers raced out to a 26-0 lead before the Bears found the end zone in the fourth quarter as Chicago dropped to 0-2 on the year. Quarterback Mike Glennon threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the loss for the Bears. Chicago hosts Pittsburgh next week.


Pittsburgh 26, Minnesota 9

--Ben Roethlisberger tossed a pair of touchdowns in the first half and the Steelers defense shut down the Minnesota offense in a dominating win at Heinz Field. Minnesota was without quarterback Sam Bradford who had a sore knee and was forced to start Case Keenum. Minnesota hosts Tampa Bay next Sunday.


Tonight on Monday Night Football the Lions visit the Giants. Coverage begins at 7pm after “In The Huddle” on KFIZ.

Milwaukee 10, Miami 3

--Travis Shaw went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI as the Brewers scored 10 runs and collected 16 hits in the series finale against the Marlins at Miller Park Sunday afternoon. Brandon Woodruff earned the win for the Brewers on the mound, allowing three runs on eight hits in seven innings of work. The Brewers open a three-game road series with Pittsburgh tonight, first pitch is 6:05 pm.

Cincinnati 5, Pittsburgh 2


American League:


Detroit 12, Chicago White Sox 0


Minnesota 13, Toronto 7

College Football:


The Wisconsin Badgers climbed slightly in both national polls after their 40-6 demolishing of BYU on Saturday afternoon. In the Associated Press top 25, the Badgers climbed one spot to number nine, while the Badgers are up two spots to number 10 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. In the AP Poll, Alabama remains number one with Clemson at two, Oklahoma at three, Penn State at four and USC at five. The second five includes Oklahoma State, Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio State. The Badgers are off this week and will host Northwestern on the 30th.


Men’s College Soccer:


Fontbonne 2, Marian 1


Women’s College Golf:


Marian shot a team score of a 468 at the second round of the Marian Invite at Whispering Springs Golf Course to finish in 8th place. The Sabres were led by Taylor Wise, who shot an 83 for the second round and set a Marian Women’s Golf Program Record for a single round. Wise won the invite with a two-day total of a 168.
