Sports – Monday, August 19th, 2013

Hunter Schmitz struckout out seven and gave up just two hits as the Fond du Lac Babe Ruth team beat Cape Cod, Massachusetts at the Babe Ruth World Series in Alabama.  Rain has changed up the schedule and moved games to other venues.  The Bombers are set to play a team from Texas today.  At 1-2 coach Rusty Kryzanowski says they must win today to get to 2-2 and earn a spot in the next round of the event.

 

Brewers

The Brewers settled for the series split with the Reds falling 9-1 on Sunday at Miller Park.  Wily Peralta gave up seven runs and 8 hits in 4 and third innings of work.  Khris Davis’ solo shot in the 5th was all Milwaukee could muster on offense.  The Cardinals come to town for a three game set starting tonight.  Marco Estrada gets the start for the Brewers.  Coverage begins at 6:35pm on KFIZ.

 

A-Rod

The Yankees beat the Red Sox 9-6 last night.  Red Sox pitcher Ryan Dempster plunked Alex Rodriguez after four pitches inside.  A-Rod then hit a home run in his next at bat.  Yankee skipper Joe Girardi got tossed while Dempster stayed in the game.

 

Packers

The Packers get back on the practice field today after Saturday night’s 19-7 win in St. Louis.    Head coach Mike McCarthy thinks the team made strides from week one but must keep getting better.  The Packers host Seattle on Friday night.

 

Girls Tennis

The Fond du Lac girls tennis team competed in a tournament down in Oconomowoc this weekend and went 1-2.  The Cardinals beat Pewaukee and fell to Oconomowoc and Wauwatosa West. 

 

High School

The high school football season kicks off this weekend and we’ll have a pair of games on KFIZ.  On Friday, Fond du Lac hosts Appleton North at Fruth.  Coverage begins at 5:30pm with the Backyard Grill Kickoff Show.  The kickoff is set for 7pm.  On Saturday night, St. Mary’s Springs hosts Sheboygan Falls.  Coverage Saturday because at 6:30pm.  Ledger football is presented by BCI Burke Company.

 

East Shore League

Mt. Calvary stopped Forest 10-4 to finish the East Shore League a perfect 14-0 on the season.  St. Peter was 2nd with a 11-3 record.
