If you were looking forward to Packers preseason football last night, you were likely disappointed. The Hall of Fame Game against the Colts was cancelled due to unsafe field conditions at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Representatives of the hall and both teams met several hours before the scheduled 7 p.m. kickoff to discuss the turf, and the Packers and Colts felt the field was not safe. Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said the decision to cancel the game was the right one when it came down to player safety. The most noticeable problems were bare spots around midfield, and several players said painted areas were too hard. Rubber pellets used in the turf came loose and were scattered in several spots and needed to be removed. The Packers will now open up the preseason on Friday at Lambeau Field against the Cleveland Browns.

Two home runs and an RBI triple in the 5th inning helped the Diamondbacks to a 9-3 win in the series finale against the Brewers Sunday afternoon. Jimmy Nelson took the loss, he drops to 6-11. The Brewers return home to open a series against Atlanta tonight. Pregame at 5:45, first pitch at 6:20 on News/Talk 1450 KFIZ.

Denny Hamlin prevailed in a four-lap dash to the checkered flag to win a wreck-fest at newly paved Watkins Glen International on Sunday. It’s the first road course win of Hamlin’s career as he survived a race that had eight cautions for 24 laps and two red flags for 30 minutes. Joey Logano finished second, followed by Brad Keselowski, AJ Allmendinger and Tony Stewart.

Justin Thomas and Patrick Rodgers finished tied for third at a 12-under 268.
