A pair of area team’s saw the thrill of victory and the
agony of defeat at the WIAA State Softball Tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison on Friday night.  In the WIAA Division Two Semifinal, Waupun’s
Taylor Brown laid down a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 7th to
score two score Keyra Verheyen to cap a two run rally and a 5-4 win over Beloit
Turner.  Waupun will face LaCrosse Logan
in the Division Two State Championship Game on Saturday at 12:30pm.

 

Lomira lost a heart-breaker to Poyentte 4-3 on Friday night
in a D3 Semifinal. The Lions spotted the Puma’s three unearned runs in the
bottom of the 1st inning.  They
clawed back to tie the game on a two-out, 2-run pinch hit triple by Ally
Boevers in the 6th.  Poynette’s
Dani Treinen the blasted a solo home run over the left field wall in the bottom
of the 7th inning to grab the walk-off win.   Lomira’s season ends at 19-6.  Poynette will play either Bloomer or Laconia in the D3 State
Championship at 4:30pm on Saturday.   The
WIAA moved the Laconia vs. Bloomer game to Verona on Saturday
morning because they were over two hours behind schedule.  The Lions and Blackhawks will now start at
9:30am at Verona’s
Country View Elementary.  You’ll hear
that game on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.  With Laconia on KFIZ, you will
now hear Oakfield’s Division Four Semifinal with Juda-Albany at 9am on K107.1-FM.  A win by Oakfield would put them in the
Division Four State Title Game at 4:30pm on Saturday.

Aramis Ramirez drove in five runs as the Brewers doubled up
the Washington Nationals 8-4 at Miller
Park
on Friday
night.  The series will continue this
afternoon at 3:05pm.

 

The NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs continue tonight as Tampa Bay
hosts Chicago.  That series is tied at 2-2.

 

The NBA Finals are off until Sunday night when the Warriors
host Cleveland in Oakland
That series is tied 1-1.

 

At the Women’s World Cup in Canada,
the United States played Sweden
to a 0-0 draw.
