The Wisconsin Badgers couldn’t make a jump shot and got bounced by #12 seed Mississippi 57-46 in Kansas City. The Badgers shot just 25% from the floor including 7 of 30 beyond the three-point arc. Sam Dekker led UW with 14 points. Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson scored 17 of his game 19 in the 2nd half. The Badgers season ends at 23-12.
The Badgers weren’t alone losing to a double-digit seed. #2 Georgetown got bounced by #15 Florida Gulf Coast, #13 LaSalle stunned #4 Kansas State. #11 Minnesota was an 83-63 winner over #6 UCLA. In the Big Ten Ohio State was a 95-70 winner over Iona. Illinois stopped Colorado 57-49. Indiana was a 83-62 winner over James Madison. The Big Ten teams are 6-1 in the tournament so far with the Badgers being the lone loss.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will play Butler in the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament tonight. The tip is set for right around 6:45pm in Lexington, Kentucky. We’ll have NCAA Tournament coverage this afternoon immediately following Milwaukee Brewers baseball.
The Marquette women lost to Northern Iowa 61-59 in the Women’s NIT on Friday night. The UW-Green Bay women are a #11 seed and will play at #6 LSU on Sunday in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Tournament.
Heat Win Again
The Miami Heat stretched their winning streak to 25 games with a 103-89 win over Detroit on Friday night.
The Indiana Pacers stopped the Bucks 102-78 last night. Monta Ellis had 22 and Larry Sanders was ejected for the 3rd time in the last six games. The Bucks host the Hawks on Sunday afternoon Coverage begins at 1:40pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.
Darwin Barney and DIoner Navarro hit back to back homers in the 9th off of Michael Olmsted as the Cubs beat the Brewers 4-1. Yovani Gallardo gave up 1 run on 4 hits in 5 and a third innings of work. The Badger men’s hockey team advanced to the WCHA Championship Game with a 4-1 win over St. Cloud State. The Badgers face Colorado College tonight. It’s the Badgers first appearance the title game since 2000.
Bill Haas and Justin Rose share the lead at the Arnold Palmer Invite on the PGA Tour through two rounds. Tiger Woods is four shots off the pace.
Longtime Ripon College Coach Steps Down
After 23 seasons as Ripon College Head Women's Basketball Coach, Julie Johnson will step down from her role to become full-time Athletic Director. Johnson is Ripon College’s all-time winningest coach with an overall record of 303-237 (.561). This past season, she became just the fourth Midwest Conference coach to reach the 300 win plateau, while also becoming the fourth coach in MWC history to win 200 conference games.
