Fond du Lac girls tennis competed in the Oconomowoc quad on Saturday, going 1-2, with a 4-3 win over Kettle Moraine and losses to Oconomowoc 5-2 and Pewaukee 4-3. Ally Gietzel had 3 wins for Fondy in the number 4 and number 3 singles, Kellie Hierl had two wins in the number 1 singles slot and Claire Weston had two wins in the number 2 singles spot. 

Waupun girls tennis competed in the Lake Mills tennis invitational on Saturday. Erin Schmitt picked up one win in the number 2 singles and Janel Kanelis earned a win in the number 3 singles slot. In doubles play, Elyse Stebel and Madeline Keoch earned one win in the #1 doubles slot and McKenzie Rickerman and Shelby Koll earned two wins in the #2 doubles slot 

The Brewers lost their second straight game to the Reds on Saturday, this time by an 11-5 final. An eight run sixth inning blew the game open for Cincinnati, who had 16 hits in the win. Ryan Braun and Martin Maldonado added home runs for the Brewers in the loss. The final game of the series is this afternoon, 12:35 pregame, 1:10 first pitch on KFIZ.

The Packers return to the practice field today to prepare for preseason game number two this coming Thursday against Oakland. Practice starts at 12:15 today at Ray Nitschke Field.

Michael Phelps wrapped up his 23rd career gold medal by putting the United States ahead to stay on the butterfly leg of the 4×100 medley relay. Ryan Murphy set a world record in the 100 backstroke during the relay, finishing in 51.85. Nathan Adrian pulled away on the freestyle to win in an Olympic-record time of 3 minutes, 27.95 seconds.


The U.S. claimed its 1,000th gold medal in Summer Olympics history when Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Dana Vollmer and Simone Manuel won the women’s 4×100-meter medley. Their winning time was 3 minutes, 53.13 seconds. The U.S. is the first nation to win 1,000 summer golds, more than double the next-best nation

In golf, Ryan Moore shot two more rounds of 6-under 65 on Saturday to take the third-round lead in the John Deere Classic. Moore’s 18-under total is one stroke ahead of Morgan Hoffman and Ben Martin. Moore never got on the course Friday in the tournament that finally got back on schedule Saturday when the players raced to finish before dark.
