High School Football: 

St. Mary’s Springs 28, Shiocton 0

Blake Bauer ran for a score and threw for another as the Ledgers shut out Shiocton in the season opener for both teams at Fruth Field Saturday night. After a scoreless first quarter, Springs led 14-0 at halftime after the touchdown run by Bauer and an 11 yard touchdown run by Fintan Floyd. Clay Schueffner added an 11 yard touchdown run in the 3rd and Bauer connected with Mitch Waechter for 31 yards to cap the scoring on the night. Up next for St. Mary’s Springs, a game at defending WIAA Division 5 State Champion Amherst on Friday

Campbellsport 16, Mayville 0. Game was suspended Friday night due to a power failure with Campbellsport leading 8-0. The Cougars maintained the shutout after the game restarted Saturday afternoon at 3pm. 

Baseball: 

Brewers lost to the Seattle Mariners 8-2. Catcher Mike Zunino went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI in the game for Seattle. Brewers got 7 hits off of starter Felix Hernandez but couldn’t turn them into runs until the 8th inning when Ryan Braun hit an RBI double and Hernan Perez knocked an RBI single. Final game in the series is today, 2:35 pregame, 3:10 first pitch on KFIZ. 

The Packers held a closed practice on Saturday and will be off today. The team is 2-0 on the preseason after their 20-12 win over Oakland on Thursday night. The next two preseason games are on the road, first at San Francisco this Friday then at Kansas City on September 1st. 

In golf, Si Woo Kim continues to lead the PGA’s Wyndham Championship after firing a 6-under 64 in the third round. His 18-under total gives him a four-stroke advantage over Rafa Cabrera Bello. Madison native Jerry Kelly is tied for 14th at a minus-10.  


The water-logged Sprint Cup race at Bristol Motor Speedway was called after just 48 of 500 laps were run because of rainstorms throughout Saturday night. The race will resume today at Noon. Kyle Busch had the lead, followed by Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth
