Sports – Sunday, June 7th, 2015

 

The St.
Mary’s Springs girls track team finished 2nd at the WIAA
Division.  Melanie Schneider finished 5th
in the 200, 3rd in the 400 and 2nd in the Long Jump.  Liz Bohn was 2nd in the 800 and 5th
in the 1600.  Anja Smith was 6th
in the 100 hurdles.  The Ledgers team of
Emily McGovern, Melanie Schneider, Page Case, and Liz Bohn won the 4×800
relay.  Lizzy Leichtle was 8th
in the shot put.  Cuba City
won the D3 girls state title with 53 points. 
St. Mary’s Springs had 44.   The Ledger boys finished 27th at
the meet.  Senior Sam Spranger won the
Division 3, 100 meter dash. 

 

In Division 1, Fond du Lac’s Ally Gietzel was 11th
and Annie Moore 15th in the 800. 
Moore
was also 16th in the 1600. Nicole
Lord was 22nd in the long jump. 
 On the boys side, Fond du Lac’s Peter Andrew
was 7th in the shot and 13th in the discus. 

 

In Division Two Waupun was 19th.
Waupun’s Adrian Harmsen was 8th in the 200 and 7th in the
400.  Bryce Verheyen was 5th in
the 800.  Matt Kuik was 4th in
the 1600.

 

Fond du Lac High School’s
doubles team of Keenan Salah and Matt Riley finished 3rd at the WIAA
Division One State Tennis Tournament in Madison
on Saturday.

American Pharoah won The Belmont Stakes on
Saturday to become the first horse to win racings Triple Crown since Affirmed
in 1978.

 

Ryan Braun homered and Carlos Gomez drove
in 3 runs a the Brewers beat Minnesota
4-2 on Saturday afternoon in the Twin Cities. 
The series wraps up this afternoon. Coverage begins at 12:35pm on KFIZ.

 

The Tampa Bay Lightning evened the NHL’s
Stanley Cup Finals at 1-1 with a 4-3 win over Chicago on Saturday night.  Game 3 in Monday night in Chicago.

 

The Golden State Warriors take a 1-0
series over Cleveland
lead into Game 2 of the NBA Finals on tonight.
