Badgers Fall In OT…Again

The Wisconsin Badgers lost to Penn State in overtime 24-21.  After Penn State kicked a field goal on their possession, Kyle French missed a 45 yard attempt was wide left to end the game.  UW tied the game late again as Curt Phillips led the Badgers on a late TD drive that capped with a 4 yard pass to Kevin Duckworth with :18 seconds left.  Montee Ball scored a first half TD to set the NCAA career TD mark with 79.   UW finishes the Big Ten at 4-4 and overall at 7-5.  The Badgers only win over a team with a winning record was against Utah State.  Wisconsin still plays Nebraska next Saturday in the Big Ten Championship Game at Indianapolis.  You’ll hear it on KFIZ.

 

Titans in DIII Quarterfinals

UW-Oshkosh beat Bethel 37-14 to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament on Saturday. Winnebago Lutheran grad Caleb Voss caught a pair of TD passes in the win.  The 14-0 Titans will battle 11-0 Linfield next weekend.

The Fond du Lac Bears dropped their 2012-13 league opener on Saturday night 7 to 4 to the Vernon Hills Capitals. The score was tied after 20 minutes of play at 1 a piece. The Capitals opened the scoring at 14:06 mark. The Bears would answer at the Capitals goal at the 17:32 mark as Robbie Coleman scored the Bears only goal in the period. The Coleman goal was assisted by Simon Hedeen and Cory Sokolik. The second period would prove to be the Bears downfall as Vernon Hills would score 4 goals to the Bears 1. The Bears goal in second was scored by Conrad Acheson, Ryan Smit was credited with the only assist on the Acheson goal. The score going into the final 20 minutes was 5 to 2 in favor of the visitors. Both team would tally 2 goals in the final period to make the final 7 to 4 in favor of the Capitals. The final 2 Bears goals were scored by Conrad Acheson and Tyler Grebe. The Acheson was assisted by Cory Smit and Terry Kalata. The Grebe gaol was assisted by both Conrad Acheson and Chris Thompson. The assist enabled Acheson to score points 3 points(2 goals and 1 assist). The Bears net minded Justin De Maa had 27 saves in a losing effort. The Bears record goes to 0-1-0 in league play and 1-4-0 overall.The Bears will back in action on Saturday night with a home contest with the West Bend Bombers, the Bears opponent. The face-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
