After going 86 years without a World Series win the Boston Red Sox have now won three times in the last decade.  The Red Sox closed out the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-1 last night at Fenway. The Red Sox win the best of seven series 4-2.   It was the first time Boston closed out a World Series at home since 1918.  Former Wisconsin Timber Rattler David Ortiz was the MVP after hitting .688 in the Fall Classic.

The Bucks rallied from 25 points down to take a lead on the New York Knicks late but still lost 90-83 in the season opener at Madison Square Garden.  Caron Bulter had 14 while OJ Mayo and Zaza Pachulia each added 13 in the loss.  The Bucks are in Boston on Friday night.

The Bucks also announced that their new floor will have to be resurfaced and will not be available for a few weeks.  The final preseason game was cancelled in the first quarter because players kept slipping and falling.

The Badger men’s basketball teams stopped UW-Platteville 80-51 in their exhibition  opener on Wednesday night. Ben Brust scored 20 for UW.   The Badgers also announced that sophomore guard Zak Showalter and junior guard Jordan Smith will red-shirt this season.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Packers have given practice squad QB Scott Tolzien a big raise to keep him from signing to another team’s 53-man roster.  The paper says the former Badger QB went from making $6,000 per week to over $32,000 per week to stay in Green Bay.   The Packers and Bears will play on Monday Night Football at Lambeau.  You’ll hear it on KFIZ.
