High School Sports:

Three Fond du Lac area athletes signed National Letters of Intent to play college sports on Wednesday. From Fond du Lac High School, Ally Gietzel signed to play basketball at Illinois State University., while fellow Cardinal Elliott Nielsen signed to play golf at the University of Northern Iowa. Across town, at St. Mary's Springs Academy, Emily Mueller signed her Letter of Intent to play basketball at Northern Michigan University.

NFL:

The Packers have waived tight end Martellus Bennett with a failure to disclose a physical condition designation Wednesday, ending Bennett’s short time with Green Bay. The designation means the team believes he did not inform them of a previous injury before he was signed. Bennett caught 24 passes for 233 yards and no touchdowns in seven games this year, but missed Monday’s game against Detroit with a shoulder injury and was already ruled out for this Sunday’s contest against Chicago. Bennett had posted on his Instagram account during the bye week that he was considering retirement at season’s end.

The Minnesota Vikings have taken quarterback Teddy Bridgewater off the physically unable to perform list. The Vikings added him to the active roster for the first time since he badly injured his left knee during practice more than 14 months ago. Quarterback Sam Bradford was placed on injured reserve amid continued trouble with his left knee. Bradford led the Vikings to victory in the season opener, but he has played only half a game since then.

Marian University has announced the addition of women’s lacrosse as the school’s 21st varsity sport. The Sabres’ inaugural season will be the 2018-19 school year, and the school has selected David Pomeroy as head coach. Pomeroy was the head women’s lacrosse coach at Northland College in Ashland. The addition of women’s lacrosse caps off a four-year run at Marian where a varsity sport will play their inaugural season.
