High School Baseball:

 

WIAA Division 2 Regional Finals:

 

Waupun 12, Ripon 1 (6 Innings)

–Waupun will host Jefferson in a sectional semifinal game next Tuesday at 10:30 am.

 

Mayville 21, University School of Milwaukee 11 (5 Innings)

–Mayville plays Wisconsin Lutheran in a sectional semifinal game Tuesday afternoon at Waupun

 

WIAA Division 3 Regional Finals:

 

Laconia 7, Markesan 6

–Drew Gunnink went 3 for 4 at the plate as the Spartans defeat top-seeded Markesan to win the regional championship. Laconia will play Southern Door in a sectional semifinal matchup at Markesan on Tuesday.

 

WIAA Division 4 Regional Finals:

 

Oakfield 8, Living Word Lutheran 4

–The Oaks advance to a sectional semifinal game against Rosholt next Tuesday at Barneveld.

 

Baseball regional finals today include Fond du Lac hosting Watertown in Division one, while Winnebago Lutheran hosts Lake Country Lutheran in Division three. Winners advance to sectionals on Tuesday.

 

High School Softball action on KFIZ this afternoon, as Laconia hosts Random Lake in a WIAA Division 3 Sectional Championship game. Coverage starts at 4:55, first pitch at 5pm from Taylor Park in Rosendale. Winner advances to the state semifinals next Friday at Goodman Diamond in Madison.

 

Northwoods League:

 

Fond du Lac 5, Madison 3

–Collin Ridout drew a bases-loaded walk in the 7th, then Andrew Bullock followed that with a two run single as the Dock Spiders won their first game in team history over the Mallards in Madison. The Dock Spiders host defending Northwoods League champion Wisconsin Rapids for their home opener at Herr Baker Field tonight. First pitch is 6:35.

–Eric Thames and Keon Broxton each hit home runs in the win for the Brewers and Junior Guerra earned the victory on the mound for Milwaukee, going six innings and allowing just four hits while striking out four. NFL: The Packers signed linebacker Vince Biegel on Wednesday. The 6-foot-3, 246 pound Biegel was the first pick of the fourth round in April’s NFL Draft. His signing leaves only two of the team’s 10 draft picks unsigned. Contract terms were not officially announced, but sources place the deal at four years and worth just over three million dollars.

 

College Football: Kickoff times for three Badger football games for the upcoming season have been announced. Wisconsin’s game at BYU on September 16th will kick off at 2:30 pm, while games against Maryland on October 21st and Illinois on October 28th will both kick off at 11am. Previously, the Badgers’ season opener against Utah State on September 1st was announced as an 8pm start time.
