Brewers Lose

The Colorado Rockies took the series finale from the Brewers 7-3 last night at Miller Park.  Wily Peralta gave up four runs on 5 hits in five and a third innings of work to get hung with the loss.  The game was 4-3 heading into the top of the 9th but closer John Axford gave up a pair of home runs, and three total runs on five hits before getting pulled after getting just two outs.  Rickie Weeks went 3×4 with a solo home run and a double.  The Crew takes today off before opening up a weekend series with Arizona at Miller Park on Friday night.

 

Bucks Fall

The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Bucks 107-98 last night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  Ersan Ilyasova had 29 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.   Monta Ellis chipped in 18.  The Boston Celtics won last night so they now move 2.5 games ahead of Milwaukee for the 7th playoff spot in the East.  Philly got beat by Charlotte so Milwaukee holds a six game lead over them for the final playoff spot with 8 games to play.

 

Rodgers & Matthews Near Deals

With Aaron Rodgers nearing a huge contract extension, reports are now surfacing that Clay Matthews may soon get his new contract extension.  ESPN reports Matthews may get $13 million dollars per season

 

Zombo To KC

Former Packers linebacker Frank Zombo has signed a contract with Kansas City.  Zombo was hampered by injuries after making the Packers three seasons ago as an undrafted free agent.

 

New Name For Big East Football

The football programs of the former Big East Conference have decided on a new name.  It will be called the American Athletic Conference. 

 

Auburn Football Troubles

A report has surfaced citing problems with the Auburn football program during their run to the 2011 BCS Championship.  The story alleged payment to players and changing grades to keep players eligible to play.  Former Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts wrote the story.

 

College Coaching Moves

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have hired Richard Pitino as their new head men’s basketball coach.  He’s the 31-year-old son of Louisville’s Rick Pitino.  Richard went 18-14 at Florida International last season. Rutgers has fired head men’s coach Mike Rice after video surfaced of him verbally and physically abusing players at practice.
