Two prominent figures left the University of Wisconsin
football program.  One was no
surprise.  The other was a shocker.  Thursday morning, Running back Melvin Gordon,
a Heisman Trophy finalist announced that he was skipping his senior season and
would enter the NFL Draft.  Then a few
hours later, news leaked Gary Andersen was leaving the school and taking the
head coaching position at Oregon
State
.  Andersen spent just two seasons in Madison and compiled a
19-7 record.  Athletic Director Barry
Alvarez says he was blindsided by Andersen’s departure and would begin a search
for a new head coach immediately.
Alvarez says the seniors have asked that he coach the team in the
Outback Bowl on January 1st
He said he will make that decision by this morning and he hopes to have
a new head coach in place by the bowl game.
