The WIAA State Football
Championships get going today with title games in Divisions, 4, 5, 6, and
7.  St. Mary’s Springs plays Darlington at 1pm today in a Division Six title
game.  The Ledgers are 13-0 while Darlington is 12-1.

The Milwaukee Bucks won their 3rd straight game taking down the Brooklyn
Nets 122-118 in triple-overtime on Wednesday night.  Jabari Parker had 23
and OJ Mayo 21.  Brandon Knight and Giannis each added 18.  The win
improves Milwaukee to 7-5 on the season. 

 

The Badger men’s basketball team took care of UW-Green Bay
84-60 at the Kohl
Center
on Wednesday
night.  Nigel Hayes had 25 points and 11
rebounds while Frank Kaminsky went for 20 points and 15 rebounds. Sam Dekker
had 19 in the win for Bucky.  Keifer
Sykes had 20 for the Phoenix

 

UW-Milwaukee was beaten by IUPUI last night 70-68.

 

A big second half rally came up just short as Ripon edged the
Marian men’s basketball team 63-61 on Wednesday night at the Sadoff Gym. 
Ripon shot 63% in the first half on their way to a 40-24 lead at the
break.  The Sabres cut that lead to just 2 points with :07 seconds to play
but never got a chance to tie or take the lead.  Josh Creed led the Sabres
with 20 points.  Alex Stecker and Campbellsport grad Isiah Daniels each
added 10 in the loss.   Ty Sabin led Ripon (2-1) with 23. 
Marian is back at the Sadoff Gym on Saturday when they host Northland
International.  The tip is set for 5pm.

 

The UW-Fond du Lac women’s basketball team hammered Washington County 76-40 on
Wednesday night.  Billi Retzleff had 22 and Shannon Wagner 21 to lead the
Falcons.  UW-FDL improves to 4-1 in conference play

 

The Packers continue to
prepare for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday afternoon in the twin cities.   Green Bay is
tied with Detroit
on top of the NFC North at 7-3.  The
Vikings and Bears sit at the bottom of the division at 4-6.  Sunday’s game kicks off at Noon.  Coverage begins at 10am on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.

The Badgers travel to Iowa on Saturday for a
matchup with the Hawkeyes. At 5-1 in the Big Ten, UW has a one game lead over Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota in the Big Ten
West standings.  Saturday’s game kicks
off at 2:30pm with pregame coverage set for 12:30pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.

Gordon has been named one of 10 finalist for the Doak Walker Award.  That’s given annually to college football’s
top running back.   Head coach Gary
Andersen has also been named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Football Club’s
Coach of the Year Award.

 

Marian University
athletic director and head baseball coach Jason Bartelt will be inducted into
the Wisconsin State Baseball League Hall of Fame on January 24th in Sheboygan.  Bartelt played for the Sheboygan A’s from 1997 to 2001. He was the
league’s Rookie of the Year in 1997 and MVP in 2000.  His .379 career batting average is sixth all-time
among players with at least 700 plate appearances.
