Boys Soccer:

The Hierl Insurance High School Team of the Week is the Fond du Lac High School Girls Volleyball Team. The Cardinals won the Madison East Invitational over the weekend, defeating Waukesha North, Hartford, Beloit Memorial, Madison East and Hartford again in the championship match. For the tournament, Monica Dreifeurts had 35 kills and 10 aces, Megan Wendt had 21 kills and 23 digs, Maggie Stellmacher added 45 digs while Emily Thompson totaled 109 assists. Congratulations to the Fond du Lac Boys Volleyball team who also won the Madison East Invite on Saturday as well.

Fond du Lac’s Kellie Hierl was selected as an extra qualifier for the State Girls Tennis Tournament which will be held this weekend in Madison. Hierl will compete in singles play starting Thursday morning with a match against Maddi Bremel of Madison West.

NFL:

Monday Night Football:

Minnesota 20, Chicago 17

–Kai Forbath’s 26 yard field goal with 12 seconds left helped the Vikings to a win over the Bears in Chicago on Monday night. Bears rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw for 128 yards, a touchdown and an interception in his debut.

College Football:

Badgers running back Jonathan Taylor was named the Big Ten’s Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week after his performance in Saturday’s win at Nebraska. Taylor ran for 249 yards and two touchdowns, including a 75 yard score late in the first half. Taylor became the second true freshman in program history to record multiple 200-yard rushing games and the first since Ron Dayne in 1996. The awards are the second time this season Taylor has earned each award.

MLB:

American League Division Series:

Houston 5, Boston 4

–Astros win the series 3-1, advance to the ALCS

NY Yankees 7, Cleveland 3

–Series tied at two. Game five is Wednesday in Cleveland.

National League Division Series:

Chicago Cubs 2, Washington 1

–Cubs lead the series 2-1, game four is this afternoon in Chicago.

LA Dodgers 3, Arizona 1

–LA sweeps the series 3-0, advances to the NLCS.

Men’s College Golf:

Marian finished in third place at the NACC Championship at Whistling Straits after shooting a round two score of a 314. Jake Sherwood shot the lowest round of any student-athlete with a 69 and sits in second place individually. Christian Taylor is also in the top-10 at 13-over par. The Sabres will conclude the NACC Championship in April at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Illinois.
