The Brewers were busy at the trade deadline Monday afternoon. The team sent reliever Will Smith to the San Francisco Giants and Catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Jeremy Jeffress to the Texas Rangers.

In exchange for Will Smith, the Brewers acquired 21 year old right hander Phil Bickford and 26 year old catcher Andrew Susac. Bickford was a first round pick of the Giants in 2015 and was rated as the top prospect in the Giants’ organization by mlb pipeline dot com. He has a combined 2.71 ERA between Class-A teams in Augusta and San Jose this year. Susac was batting .273 with 8 home runs and 36 RBIs with Triple-A Sacramento.

A day after exercising his no-trade clause to veto a potential deal to Cleveland, the Brewers dealt Catcher Jonathan Lucroy and closer Jeremy Jeffress to Texas for two prospects and a player to be named later. The Brewers acquired outfielder Lewis Brinson and pitcher Luis Ortiz. Both players are rated as top prospects in the Rangers’ organization. Brinson batted .237 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI at Double-A Frisco, while Ortiz went 4-6 with a 3.48 ERA with Class-A High Desert and Double-A Frisco.

A five-run fifth inning helped lift the San Diego Padres to a 7-3 win over the Brewers Monday night in San Diego. Center fielder Travis Jankowski went 3-3 in the game, as the Padres belted out 10 hits off Brewers pitching, 8 of those off of starter Jimmy Nelson. The crew did get home runs from Hernan Perez and Chris Carter in the loss, which snapped their four game winning streak. The Packers are in game preparation mode for Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The team practiced under the lights at Ray NItschke Field last night. The team has the day off today, and will have two more evening practices this week on Wednesday and Thursday. You can hear Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game on KFIZ, pregame starts at 5pm, kickoff at 7pm.

Chris Buescher benefited from some bad weather to win the Sprint Cup race at Pocono for his first victory in NASCAR’s top series. The 23-year old former Xfinity series champ took the lead shortly before a dense fog closed in on the track, red-flagging the race with 22 laps to go. Brad Keselowski finished second, followed by Regan Smith, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart.
