Packer Injuries

The mounting Packers injury list had a few key names added to it over the weekend in the team’s win over the Arizona Cardinals.  Linebacker Clay Matthews is expected to miss a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. Rookie Dezman Moses is expected to start in place of Matthews if he can’t go.   Right tackle Brian Bulaga’s injury is another story.  Bulaga injured his hip and will see a specialist this week and Mike McCarthy seemed concerned at his Monday press conference.  The Packers will go with TJ Lang at right tackle and Evan Dietrich-Smith at LG if Bulaga is out.  The coach also said that he wasn’t happy with the progress of linebacker Nick Perry’s knee injury and that will get a 2nd opinion on that.  Jordy Nelson will have to nurse and ankle injury has well from the win over the Cardinals.

Decision Time For Sherrod and Quarless

A day of reckoning is on the horizon for a pair of injured Packers.  The team must decide by Wednesday whether to put TE Andrew Quarless on the active roster or place him on IR for the rest of the reason.  He was on the PUP list and was designated to practice over the last three weeks.  So a decision on him must be made by tomorrow.  As for Sherrod, he hasn’t used his three week practice window from the PUP list but the team may need to make a decision on him soon as week.  Quarless suffered a knee injury and Sherrod a broken leg last season.

Crosby Safe

Packers kicker Mason Crosby has missed five of his last 10 field goal attempts, but his job is safe for now.  Special teams coach Shawn Slocum says that Crosby needs to get away and not think about football during the bye.  Slocum says they have no plans on bringing in any kickers during the bye week to compete with Crosby.

Monday Night Football

Drew Brees threw a pair of TD passes in the Saints 28-13 win over the Eagles on Monday Night Football as they improve to 3-5 on the year.  Mike Vick threw a TD but also a pick six for the Eagles as drop to 3-5 on the season.

Bucks Jennings Honored

Bucks guard Brandon Jennings has been named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week.  Jennings had 21 points and 13 assists in the season opening win at Boston and then had 13 points and 13 assists in the win over Cleveland.  He also hit the game winner at the buzzer against the Cavs.  It’s the 2nd time Jennings has won the award.

Mayo Ineligible

Marquette guard Todd Mayo has been ruled academically ineligible and will be unable to play or practice with the team for the foreseeable future.  Mayo averaged 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds for the Golden Eagles last season.  Marquette opens their season on Friday night when they play Ohio State on a U.S. aircraft carrier in South Carolina.
