The latest Associated Press High School Football Polls were released Monday, and two area teams are ranked in the “small” schools poll. Saint Mary’s Springs remains at the top of that poll with a 4-0 record. The Ledgers opened Flyway Conference play with a 55-0 win over North Fond du Lac on Saturday. Springs is at Lomira this week. Winnebago Lutheran is also ranked in the small division poll, the Vikings are at number 10 with back to back weeks of 55-0 wins over North Fond du Lac and Reedsville.

The Hierl Insurance High School Team of the Week is the Winnebago Lutheran Football team. The Vikings are 4-0 and are coming off back-to-back 55-0 wins over North Fond du Lac and Reedsville. They begin a tough 3 game set this week with a game at Omro then host Laconia and St. Mary’s Springs. Quarterback Eric Schmitz has 9 passing touchdowns and another 7 rushing touchdowns on the season. Meanwhile Dillon Jerdee has 8 rushing scores on the season.

The Packers shift their focus to Sunday night football this week, where they’ll face the Vikings in the first regular season game played at the new US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Head Coach Mike McCarthy says the divisional challenge is as strong as he remembers since he became a head coach, and the Vikings will be ready for the Packers.

The Minnesota Vikings will try to keep the Packers guessing about their starting quarterback this week. Coach Mike Zimmer said Monday he has not yet decided whether Shaun Hill will stay in the lineup or be replaced by Sam Bradford. Zimmer said he’d prefer to hold his “cards close to the vest” against a difficult opponent and joked that he “just figured it would be good sports talk radio.” Bradford had only seven days to prepare for the opener at Tennessee, after arriving in a trade with Philadelphia that was prompted by the season-ending knee injury to Teddy Bridgewater. The defending NFC North champion Vikings will break in their new stadium on Sunday night against the Packers.

In a Monday night football doubleheader last night, it was Pittsburgh all over Washington 38-16 and out on the west coast, San Francisco blanked the LA Rams 28-0.

The Badgers will host Georgia State this Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, their final non-conference game of the season. Head Coach Paul Chryst says he’s not sure if the offense can be explosive yet, he says they need to keep making plays and being efficient. He also says he likes the effort from the defense on third downs so far

The Brewers fell 3-0 to the Reds in Cincinnati Monday night, as Reds pitchers combined to allow just six hits. Starter Keyvius Sampson struck out 7 batters in just 4 & ⅔ innings of work. Scooter Gennett went 2 for 4 in the loss. Game two is tonight, a 5:35 pregame on KFIZ.
