Saint Mary’s Springs is the only area team ranked in this week’s Associated Press High School Football Poll. The Ledgers remain atop the small schools division poll with a 6-0 record. In the medium division poll, the Laconia Spartans received two votes, while in the small division poll, Winnebago Lutheran fell out of the top 10 after their loss to Laconia, but still received four votes.

The Hierl Insurance High School Team of the Week is the Fond du Lac Girls Tennis Team. The Cardinals have won five of their last six matches, including a 7-0 win over Kaukauna last week Thursday, a 5-2 win over Appleton East, a 4-3 win over Kimberly. Appleton West 6-1, and Appleton North 5-2. The Cardinals fell to Hartford 4-3 on Monday night.

The Packers are now on their bye week, and enter it with a 2-1 record after defeating the Lions 34-27 at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Head Coach Mike McCarthy says the bye comes at a good time. He says that momentum from the offense going into the bye is huge for his team going forward and hope to carry that into the rest of the season. Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers says his unit needs to take the ball away when they get chances to. The Packers return to action on Sunday, October 9th against the New York Giants.

A pair of Badgers were named Big Ten Players of the Week after the team’s 30-6 victory at Michigan State this weekend. Linebacker TJ Watt was named defensive player of the week for his performance against the Spartans. Watt recorded six total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and a career high 2.5 sacks. It’s Watt’s first defensive player of the week honor and the first such honor for the Badgers since Joe Schobert earned it in October of last year.


Quarterback Alex Hornibrook was named the Big Ten freshman of the week following the Badgers win on Saturday. Hornibrook threw for 195 yards and a touchdown in his first career start, guiding Wisconsin to its 11th win in its last 12 Big Ten road games, and its first win in Spartan Stadium since 2002. The last Badger to earn Freshman of the Week honors was TJ Edwards in October of 2015.

The Badgers return to the state of MIchigan on Saturday to face the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Head Coach Paul Chryst says they need to play well to beat Michigan, and the players need to prepare and maximize the opportunity to play in the game on Saturday.

Jonathan VIllar went 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI as the Brewers beat the Texas Rangers 8-3 in Arlington on Monday night. Matt Garza earned the win, he’s now 6-8 on the year. Former Brewers Catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 1-4 in his first game against his former team. Game 2 of the series is tonight, pregame coverage at 6:30 on KFIZ.

The Milwaukee Bucks open training camp in Madison today and held their annual media day on Monday. Bucks forward Jabari Parker talked about his goals for this year, saying he wants to pick up where he left off last year to be aggressive and be a winner. Parker says he’s supporting Khris Middleton through his hamstring injury that’s causing him to miss extended time.
