The Green Bay Packers have released James Starks, a seven-year veteran who struggled this season and didn’t play after Week 14 following a car accident. General manager Ted Thompson announced the move on Tuesday. Starks was released with a non-football injury designation. He was in the concussion protocol following the accident the week of Dec. 12.

Starks ran for 145 yards on 63 carries in nine games, making four starts. He also missed time because of a knee injury at midseason. As a rookie, Starks played all four postseason games in the Packers’ run to the Super Bowl in the 2010 season. Running back Eddie Lacy, who missed most of the 2016 season with an ankle injury, is due to become a free agent. That would leave converted receiver Ty Montgomery as the Packers’ most experienced player in the backfield.

The Bucks will hold a press conference this afternoon in Oshkosh where it is expected an announcement on the team’s developmental league team will be made. The conference is slated to begin at 3pm at the Oshkosh YMCA on 20th Avenue. That will be followed by a youth basketball clinic, instructed by former Bucks players. Bucks President Peter Feigin along with General Manager John Hammond and officials with the City of Oshkosh will be on hand for the news conference.  Oshkosh is one of three cities trying to get the Bucks’ D-League franchise. Sheboygan and Racine are the others. Oshkosh’s investors are proposing a $15 million, privately financed arena on the site of the former Buckstaff Furniture Company. The arena would have a capacity of 3,500 for basketball and more than 4,000 for concerts. Officials are hoping to break ground on that facility in March.

Sports on the air tonight, the Bucks return home to host the Miami Heat. Coverage begins at 6:40 tonight on KFIZ.
