The week two WisSports.net coaches poll was released Tuesday. In division one, the Fond du Lac Cardinals fall four spots to number nine following the loss to Appleton North. The Cardinals opponent this week, Stevens Point, enters the D1 poll at number 10. In the Division Five poll, Winnebago Lutheran enters the poll for the first time at number five, following their 45-7 win over Kenosha St. Joe’s. St. Mary’s Springs remains at the top of the Division 6 poll, with their week three opponent, Ozaukee landing at number 8. In the eight man football poll, the Oakfield Oaks fall two spots to number 7 after a marathon 80-72 loss to Madison Abundant Life.

The Packers further trimmed their roster on Tuesday to meet the 75 man roster limit that had to be in place by 3pm. The team announced they had released wide receiver Harvey Binford and placed tight end Kennard Backman, Running Back John Crockett, center Jacob Flores, tight end Mitchell Henry and guard Josh Walker on Injured Reserve. The Packers also traded linebacker Lerentee McCray to Buffalo for an undisclosed draft pick in the 2018 draft.

The Packers must further cut their roster down to the 53 man limit by 3pm Saturday, making Thursday’s preseason game against Kansas City important for the remaining younger players and even some veterans to prove why they deserve a roster spot. Head Coach Mike McCarthy says those young players need to lay it all on the line for their chance to remain with the team and even to play in the NFL. Wide Receiver Jared Abbrederis says cut week is always difficult, because players have made friends with some of the players who are being released and you never know if you may be the one who’s on the outside looking in.

One day after releasing rookie punter Peter Mortell, the team released veteran punter Tim Masthay and claimed punter Jacob Schum off of waivers from Tampa Bay. Masthay was believed to be in the driver’s seat for the punting job following the release of Mortell. The 5’10 211 pound Schum played collegiately at the University of Buffalo, and played in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season. He averaged 41.9 yards per punt on 56 attempts, while landing 15 of those inside the 20 yard line.

Badgers are getting ready to face LSU on Saturday at Lambeau Field. Linebacker Vince Biegel says he’s looking forward to facing star running back Leonard Fournette for the second time in three years. He says their offense isn’t all just Fournette and they have size and speed all over. He says the defensive coaching staff has done a good job getting them prepared for this weekend’s game.

An RBI single by Randal Grichuk in the 10th inning helped lift the Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Brewers at Miller Park Tuesday night. Martin Maldonado tied the game with a run scoring double in the bottom of the 6th and the game went into extra frames from there.Willy Peralta didn’t factor into the decision, but went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out 10. The final game of the series is tonight, a 6:35 pregame on KFIZ.
