The San Francisco Giants got on the board in the NLDS with a 2-1 win on Tuesday. The Reds Scott Rolen bobbled a grounder to third in the 10th allowing the winning run to score and keep the Giants season alive. The loss ruins a great outing from Cincy starter Homer Bailey who threw one hit ball threw seven innings. The Reds lead the series 2-1 and have another chance to close out the Giants today with a first pitch just after 3pm. The Nationals and Cardinals play Game 3 of their series this afternoon with it all tied up at 1 game each. That first pitch is set for Noon.
In the American League, Coco Crisp robbed Prince Fielder of a home run in the 2nd inning as the Oakland A’s stayed alive with a 2-0 win over the Detroit Tigers in their ALDS. The Tigers can close out that series tonight as they play Game 4 in Oakland. The first pitch is set for about 8:30pm. In the other ALDS series the Yankees host Baltimore with the series tied 1-1. That first pitch is set for 6:30pm.
The Packers get back on the practice field today as they get ready for a primetime matchup with the Houston Texans on Sunday night in Texas. Coverage begins at 5pm with the kickoff set for 7:30pm.
The Packers won’t see the Houston’s best linebacker on Sunday night. Brian Cushing is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in Monday night’s win over the Jets.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says that the season suspension of the Saints Jonathan Vilma will stand, but he can keep the money he was paid for the first six weeks of the season when he was on the PUP list. Linebacker Scott Fujita’s suspension was reduced from 3 to 1 game and Anthony Hargrove saw his ban dropped from 8 to 7 as a result of the Saints bounty investigation. Defensive end Will Smith also did not get a reduction in his suspension.
The Bucks opened up the preseason with a 97-80 win over the Cleveland Cavs in Canton, Ohio last night. Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis each scored 15 points in the win.
The Horizon League men’s basketball coaches and media have picked UW-Green Bay to finish 3rd and UW-Milwaukee 6th in the preseason poll. Valpo was picked first and Detroit 2nd.
