The Latest Sports Headlines:

>>NBA Talking About Season’s Return “Before July”

(New York, NY)  -- The N-B-A Board of Governors is said to be hopeful the season will resume “before July.” Adrian Wojnarowski is the N-B-A Insider for E-S-P-N.  He reports the board met talked to former U-S Surgeon General Vivek Murthy Tuesday. Originally, the N-B-A thought players would be back on the court by June, but as the pandemic has worsened the potential return date has been pushed back. League officials say the main priority is the health of players, fans and team staff members – but four more N-B-A players tested positive for coronavirus Tuesday, including superstar Kevin Durant.

>>College Season Over, Awards Start To Pour In For Marquette’s Markus Howard

(Milwaukee, WI)  -- With the college basketball season now in the rear-view mirror, the awards are starting to pour in for the nation’s leading scorer.  Marquette senior Markus Howard is seeing his name appear on several first and second-team All-American teams. Howard averaged almost 28 points-a-game, while connected on more than 41 percent of his 3-point shots – all at a time when he was the Golden Eagles main scoring threat. That means he got a lot of special attention from defenders.  He ended his career just eight points short of joining the top 20 N-C-A-A Division 1 career scorers of all time.

>>Another Day, Another Free Agent Leaves The Green Bay Packers

(Cleveland, OH)  -- With the passage of another day, another free agent has left the Green Bay Packers. Inside linebacker B-J Goodson has reportedly signed a contract with the Cleveland Browns, following fellow linebackers Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell. Goodson and the Packers say they tried to work something out so he could stay.  The 26-year-old was acquired by Green Bay in a trade from the Giants last September. He started on special teams, but eventually won a spot in the three-four defense, playing a little over 24 percent of the Packers’ defensive snaps.

>>4-Star Athlete Trims List To 8 Schools – Including Wisconsin

(Severn, MD)  -- Four-star football prospect Zakee Wheatley has trimmed the list of the schools he’s considering for his college career to eight – including Wisconsin. The six-foot-two, 180-pounder is rated the number-21 athlete in the country by 247Sports.  He reportedly received more than 20 offers and released the updated list Wednesday. He says he made his preliminary decisions based on academics and football. Wheatley is considered a potential standout at wide receiver or defensive back. He played high school football at Severn, Maryland Archbishop Spalding High School.

>>Wisconsin Badgers Win March Madness (Virtually)

(Bristol, CT)  -- The Wisconsin Badgers have won the 2020 March Madness – sort of.  E-S-P-N used its “Basketball Power Index” to simulate the basketball tournament that was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The sports network says its simulated Final Four included Maryland, B-Y-U, Virginia and the Wisconsin Badgers. Coach Greg Gard’s “virtual” team went on to knock off the Cougars in the national championship game.  Number-one-ranked Kansas entered the fake tournament as the favorite, followed by Duke and Gonzaga.
