The Latest Sports Headlines:

>>Former Packer Says Dallas “Got A Steal” When It Hired Coach Mike McCarthy

(Dallas, TX)  --  Former Green Bay offensive lineman Marshall Newhouse says the Cowboys “got a steal” when they hired Super Bowl-winning coach Mike McCarthy, another former Packer.  Newhouse was a rookie under McCarthy in Green Bay, playing on teams that took three straight NFC North titles starting in 2011 and winning a Super Bowl. Newhouse says he has no doubt McCarthy will bring success to Dallas. Newhouse has played for six more teams since leaving Green Bay in 2013.  At 31 years old, he says he’s ready to play some more.

>>NCAA:  Coronavirus Means It’s Unlikely All Schools Will Begin Competing At Same Time

(Indianapolis, IN)  --  The president of the NCAA says the coronavirus pandemic means it’s unlikely all universities will begin competing in college sports at the same time. Mark Emmert says no college athletes will be allowed to compete if that school’s students aren’t on campus.  He says the goal is for every team to be given an equal amount of preparation time before the fall seasons start.  Many states have different stay-at-home orders in effect, complicating the process.

>>Antetokounmpo Sues Sports Merchandise Company For Using His Name Without Permission

(Milwaukee, WI)  --  Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is suing a sports merchandise company for using his name without his permission.  The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player filed the two-million-dollar legal action against Fan Closet, LLC.  It is accused of selling phone cases, sweatshirts and baby onesies labeled with the identifier “Greek Freak.”  Antetokounmpo trademarked “Greek Freak” in the U-S and Europe.  Third parties have to get his authorization to use the phrase.  He filed a similar suit last summer against an artist in Pennsylvania who was selling “Greek Freak” merchandise.

>>Cars Roll At Slinger Speedway Sunday

(Slinger, WI)  --  Drivers and their teams say they’re not sure what to expect if the races resume at Slinger Speedway Sunday.  They say they don’t know how many people they can have on their team and what it will be like to race with no fans in the stands. The gates at the speedway have been locked for weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.  Promoter Todd Thelen says if the 73rd season at the quarter-mile track doesn’t open soon, it’s possible that short-track racing could be gone forever.  Slinger’s plan to re-open still depends on the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturning the Safer at Home extension – or making some other kind of deal.

>>Young Stoughton Golfer Has 2 Aces In 10-Day Period

(Stoughton, WI)  --  Teenage golfer Myranda Kotlowski says one of the guys in her group said, “I think that went in,” after she teed up on the sixth hole at the Stoughton Country Club last month.  That shot wound up being the first of two aces Kotlowski achieved over a 10-day period.  She had the hole-in-one on April 26th and – 10 days later on the same course – she connected on a second on the 13th hole.  Kotlowski says she gets her homework done each day, then heads for the links.  She should be wrapping up her senior year of high school this month, but the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the normal schedule.  Kotlowski will play on the women’s golf team at Colorado Mesa University.
