The Latest Sports Headlines:

>>Rookie Quarterback’s Guaranteed Deal Breaks New Ground For NFL Contracts

(Green Bay, WI)  --  The big deal isn’t that the Green Bay Packers have agreed to pay rookie quarterback Jordan Love more than 12 million dollars over the next four years.  The big deal is – that money is guaranteed.  The NFL Network reports that’s the first time the 26th overall pick in its annual draft has received a fully-guaranteed rookie contract.  Love’s cap hit will be two-point-two million dollars in 2020 and it runs through the 2023 season – the same year Aaron Rodgers’ agreement with the team runs its course.

>>JJ Watt Becomes Latest Badger Named To Big Ten All-Decade Team

(Chicago, IL)  --  Former walk-on J-J Watt has been named to the Big Ten All-Decade team.  Watt was a great player for the Wisconsin Badgers and then even turned it up a notch when he went pro.  The defensive end was named N-F-L defensive player of the year three times.  Watt, Joey Bosa and Chase Young of Ohio State and Ryan Kerrigan of Purdue were named to the first team Thursday.  He joins running back Jonathan Taylor, linebacker Chris Borland and offensive lineman Michael Deiter on the first team chosen by the Big Ten Network.  For more Badgers – linebacker T-J Watt, running back Melvin Gordon and offensive linemen Gabe Carimi and Kevin Zeitler – made the second team this week.

>>It’s Weird – But Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Is Ready To Go

(Orlando, FL)  --  Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo says he has no reservations about resuming the NBA season in a “bubble” just outside Orlando.  A few NBA players have opted out due to the coronavirus threat that stopped the season in March.  Antetokounmpo says he’s concerned about health risks, too, but his job is to play basketball, and support his teammates, and represent the city.  No Bucks have suggested they might opt out.  Antetokounmpo and the rest of his team still have a league championship within their reach.

>>Future Uncertain For Workers On Periphery Of NFL

(Green Bay, WI)  --  Ticket sellers can’t be certain about the 2020 NFL season, leading to fear of what comes next.  The announcement earlier this week that the number of preseason games would be cut in half didn’t help.  A spokesperson for the Connections Ticket Service worries cancellation of regular-season games could be coming next.  Other industries are worried, too, because the Greater Green Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau says an average Packers home game brings in about 15 million dollars to the local economy.  If the regular season is canceled, Green Bay misses out on 120 million dollars – a much bigger deal for a city of 105 thousand than for a city of eight million people, like New York.
